New Delhi: Chaudhary Charan Singh University, Meerut, has proudly secured the top position among the nation’s universities in the field of research, as acknowledged by the Clerivate Institute for their exceptional performance in the past five years. The Clerivate Awards, presented at a grand ceremony in New Delhi, are based on citations and quality of research carried out over the last five years. Chaudhary Charan Singh University, Meerut, has now established itself as a leading global university in the field of research, surpassing other state universities across the country.

Clerivate, a British-American analytics company specializing in education and research, collects and analyzes data on research outputs such as research papers and patents on a global scale. The Clerivate Awards ceremony featured a roundtable discussion with eminent university leaders and directors from various institutions across the country, where the University’s Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Sangita Shukla, highlighted their global research efforts and challenges in the research field while emphasizing the importance of research for human welfare.

The Citation Awards by Clerivate are given for outstanding contributions in the field of research at both institutional and individual levels, involving the analysis of data collected globally by Clerivate and evaluated by a panel of experts assembled by the Institute for Scientific Information (ISI). Chaudhary Charan Singh University, Meerut, is proud to have received this recognition in both institutional and individual categories.

In the institutional category, out of 441 state universities in India, Chaudhary Charan Singh University, Meerut, was honored with the India Research Excellence Citation Award. In the individual category, Dr. Saru Kumari from the Mathematics Department of the University received the accolade. Dr. Saru Kumari has published over 200 research papers in Web of Science indexed journals in the last five years, with over 3900 citations. Her research primarily focuses on security in the field of the Internet of Things.

The Citation Awards by Clerivate are divided into 11 categories, including central universities, state universities, and deemed or private universities, recognizing their contributions to research in various dimensions. The central university category was awarded to Banaras Hindu University, while Chaudhary Charan Singh University, Meerut, received the recognition in the state university category. The University has published 792 research papers in Web of Science indexed journals in the field of research over the past five years (2017-22), with an average citation impact factor of 1.35, which exceeds the global average for research institutions.

Based on Clerivate’s analysis, the University has excelled in the areas of electronics and telecommunication, material science, applied physics, and computer science research, with a particular emphasis on security systems, supply chain, and crop science research topics. The University takes pride in achieving the top position in both institutional and individual categories for outstanding contributions in the field of research according to Clerivate’s data.

Vice-Chancellor Prof. Sangita Shukla attributed this accomplishment to the exceptional research provided by the University’s faculty and commended the outstanding research work undertaken in recent years. The event also celebrated the contribution of women in research, with Dr. Saru Kumari receiving the award for her outstanding work in the field. The event was attended by dignitaries including Chief Secretary Dhirendra Kumar Varma and Finance Officer Ramesh Chandra.
