Supreme Court Order on Stray Dogs Brings Relief to Raj Nagar Extension Societies
Ghaziabad: A recent Supreme Court directive to relocate stray dogs from residential societies to designated shelters has brought a sense of relief across Raj Nagar Extension, one of Ghaziabad’s fastest-growing urban clusters.
Over the years, residents of multiple societies in the area have repeatedly raised concerns about vehicle scratches, children being unable to play freely in common areas, and elderly citizens forced to carry sticks for safety during evening walks. In high-density residential complexes – where open spaces are shared and foot traffic is high, stray dog presence has often led to safety fears and tensions among residents.
Urban planners and civic observers point out that while Raj Nagar Extension has witnessed rapid infrastructural development, the supporting civic amenities, particularly animal control and shelter facilities, have lagged behind. The absence of sustained sterilization drives and proper shelter management has meant that stray populations have continued to grow within residential zones.
Welcoming the Supreme Court’s decision, Monu Kumar Tyagi, former General Secretary of MCC Signature Heights, said:
“This is a much-needed move. It will restore safety and peace in our societies, allowing residents to live without constant fear.”
Residents now expect the Ghaziabad Municipal Corporation to act swiftly, ensuring humane and well-maintained shelters for the relocated animals. If implemented effectively, this ruling could serve as a model for other metro cities grappling with the challenge of balancing urban safety with animal welfare.
