Mountaineers Hoisted The BHU Flag At Roopkund, 14-member Team Had Left The University On June 7

Varanasi : The climbers of BHU were able to reach Roopkund at an altitude of 16500 meters above sea level, known as the mysterious lake to the world. Reaching its snowy peak, the students here hoisted the flag of the university along with the tricolor. The team members also returned on Sunday. They were welcomed at the University Mountaineering Center on Monday.

This team of University Mountaineering Center started from Malviya Bhawan on June 7 by the Proctor of the University, The team consisted of six girls and six students along with instructors Balram Yadav and Shivnarayan Yadav.

Center in-charge Prof. Anil Kumar Singh along with alumni Anupam Agarwal, Amit Kumar, Anil Yadav and Vivek Rajak welcomed and congratulated the team on reaching the center at BHU.

This team reached Lohajung in Uttarakhand via Kathgodam by rail from Varanasi. From there 14 km trekking started. After two camps, the team set up the third camp near Patal Nachoni, which has an altitude of about 15000 feet. From there, there was a trek of 17 km to Roopkund. The members started climbing in the middle of the night.

The team reached the summit seven hours after making a steep climb, crossing several snowy slopes on a very difficult road. The team included Rishi Yadav, Priyal Mishra, Poonam Saini, Bhavani Prasad Singh, Anjali Sharma, Rajshree Jain, Snehal Prakash, Komal Prajapati, Abhishek Maurya, Abhishek Chandel, Anshu Yadav, Nandini Prajapati along with guide Mike Farswan, trainer Balram Yadav and Shivnarayan Yadav.
