Amazing Army Hospital, Valve Replacement in Heart Of 15-year-old Child Without Surgery

New Delhi: For the first time in the history of the country, an army hospital has done wonders for valve replacement in the heart without surgery. The Army’s R&R Hospital has not only saved the life of a 15-year-old innocent child by doing such replacements but has also shown the way to avoid high-risk heart surgeries in the times to come. A 15-year-old boy was admitted to the Research and Referral (R&R) Hospital in Delhi in critical condition. The young man had a disease called Congenital Heart Defeat (CHD) since childhood.

The young man had already had to undergo two open heart surgeries in his childhood. During this surgery, an artificial conduit was inserted into the child’s heart. It was through this conduit that blood was being supplied to the child’s heart, but over time this conduit started deteriorating and the condition of the young man started deteriorating. In such a situation, the young man was brought to R&R Hospital.

Third heart surgery could have been dangerous

According to the army, the third heart surgery of the young man could not be done, as it could have been very dangerous. Therefore, Harmeet Singh Arora, Colonel (Doctor) of R&R Hospital’s Pediatric Interventional Cardiologist, fitted the artificial valve in the young man’s heart in a new way. For this, he transplanted the transcatheter pulmonary vault by making a small cut between the groin of the young man, that is, between the abdomen and the thigh.

first-time operation

According to the army, this type of valve replacement has happened for the first time in the government sector and armed forces. This has opened a new avenue of treatment for children with CHD, which will eliminate the need for surgery and lead to a much better life. In this work of Dr. Arora, the Director General of Armed Forces Services i.e. DG, AFMS Vice Admiral (Doctor) Rajat Dutta also got mentorship. Dr. Datta himself is the senior cardiologist in the army.
