SIT Interrogates All Three Accused in Chandigarh University Video Case

Chandigarh: The Special Investigation Team (SIT) of Punjab Police on Tuesday questioned the three accused arrested for making objectionable videos at Chandigarh University. It is alleged that a student living in the hostel had made several objectionable videos of other girl students in the bathroom. A student and two persons from Himachal Pradesh have been arrested in this case. It is said that one of the accused is the boyfriend of the student.

Sources said that the police have also found some purported screenshots of the girl’s phone conversation with one of the accused on WhatsApp, which indicated that she was being blackmailed to make the video. He said that the name of the fourth suspect has also come up during the investigation. He said the fourth suspect would be called for questioning. A senior police official said that they are waiting for the forensic report of the mobile phone which will throw light on the entire WhatsApp conversation regarding it.

“We have questioned the three accused today,” a police official said. Protests took place on the university campus in Punjab’s Mohali on Saturday night over the issue. Some of the girl students also claimed that the videos made by the girl student have been leaked. The Punjab Police on Monday constituted a three-member special investigation team, all women, to probe the allegations leveled by the girl students of the university. A court in Mohali’s Kharar had on Monday sent the three accused, including the girl, on seven-day police remand.

Meanwhile, Deputy Inspector General of Police (DIG) GPS Bhullar said on Tuesday evening that the SIT and forensic experts have also visited the Chandigarh University public facility. Bhullar said that the hostel warden has also been summoned for questioning. He said that the mobile phone data of the three accused would be obtained by the state cyber cell of Punjab Police. Bhullar said the SIT would investigate the allegations of the girl students regarding the video. There will be no laxity, he said. He assured me that the investigation into the matter would be fair.
