‘Rahul Gandhi Should Reveal The Truth, Not Satyagraha’, Sambit Patra’s Big Attack On Congress

Bhuvneshar : Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) spokesperson Sambit Patra on Sunday said Congress leader Rahul Gandhi should admit the “truth” before the Enforcement Directorate (ED) about his family’s involvement in the National Herald case. Addressing a press conference, Patra claimed that the Gandhi family was afraid of facing the ED.

The BJP leader said that Rahul Gandhi should go before the ED and confess the truth that he has embezzled Rs 500 crore. Patra said they (Congress) are planning to launch a satyagraha. Please uncover the truth in the National Herald case first.

When will Rahul Gandhi appear before ED?
Rahul Gandhi is to appear before the ED on June 13 in the money laundering case related to the National Herald-Associated Journals Limited deal. The Congress has decided that all its top leaders and MPs will take out a protest march towards the ED’s headquarters in New Delhi and hold a “satyagraha” against the “misuse” of the agency by the central government. State Congress President Sharat Patnaik said that His party will protest in front of ED’s Odisha headquarters in Newalai on Monday.

What is the whole matter?
The case pertains to the investigation into alleged financial irregularities in the party-backed Young Indian Private Limited. National Herald is published by Associated Journals Limited (AJL) and owned by Young Indian Private Limited. ED officials had told that the agency wants to record the statements of Sonia and Rahul under criminal sections of the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA).

The complaint was filed in 2013
The agency had registered a fresh case under criminal provisions of the PMLA after a trial court here took cognizance of the Income Tax Department’s investigation against Young Indian Pvt Ltd. Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Subramanian Swamy had lodged a complaint in this regard in 2013.
