Major Drug Bust: International Drug Smuggler Apprehended by Ghaziabad Crime Branch

Ghaziabad: In a significant breakthrough, the Ghaziabad Crime Branch has apprehended an international drug trafficker involved in smuggling narcotics worth approximately INR 2.5 crores into the National Capital Region (NCR) from Odisha. The operation also led to the recovery of an illegal consignment of 300 kilograms of ganja and the seizure of the vehicle used in drug trafficking.

On October 13, 2023, the Ghaziabad Crime Branch arrested an international drug trafficker who was attempting to smuggle narcotics into the NCR region from Odisha. The trafficker, identified as Jafar, was intercepted near Manipal Hospital on the Delhi-Meerut Expressway, just a short distance from the Bhameta Cut police post. This arrest was a crucial success in the fight against drug trafficking.

The seized contraband included a staggering 300 kilograms of illegal ganja, with an estimated international market value of approximately INR 2.5 crores.

During the interrogation, Jafar revealed that he had dropped out of school after the fifth grade and later took up work as a cleaner on trucks. Gradually, he learned to drive the vehicles. Unsatisfied with the earnings from transport work, he came into contact with Javed, a truck driver from Bareilly.

Javed used to smuggle ganja from Odisha hidden inside a truck (18-wheeler) and distribute it in Delhi, Haryana, and Western Uttar Pradesh. Javed introduced Jafar to this illicit trade, where he began to earn significantly. Jafar’s role was to transport goods from Ghaziabad to Odisha and bring back ganja concealed under the cargo. After loading the ganja, Jafar would shut off his phone and avoid all contact until he delivered the consignment to the designated location.

This operation not only led to Jafar’s arrest but also unveiled valuable information regarding other individuals involved in similar drug smuggling activities in the NCR.

Jafar’s interrogation has provided critical information about the network of individuals involved in ganja trafficking in the NCR. Authorities are forming teams to apprehend and investigate other suspects based on the details provided by Jafar.
