Indian Institute Of Technology Students Wins World’s Largest Coding Competition

New Delhi: According to a press release from Tata Consultancy Services, Kalash Gupta, a computer science and engineering student at the TCS CodeVita season 10 worldwide coding competition, which gathered over 100,000 entrants from 87 countries, has crowned Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Delhi as the champion (TCS).  

According to Guinness World Records, CodeVita is the world’s largest computer programming contest. Chile came in first and second place, respectively, in the competition.   After Gupta’s triumph, IIT Delhi’s director, Rangan Banerjee, congratulated him.   “I never expected to be in the top three when I started the challenge, but it’s been a very humbling experience.” The reward money ($10,000) excites me greatly. I wasn’t sure at first because the first problem took longer than I anticipated. But as I continued, solving some of the other questions, I developed more confidence in my final standing, and I knew I’d be in the top three,” Gupta said on Friday.

The 2nd runner up and the 3rd comer have won a cash prize of $7,000 and $3,000. Also, the fourth-ranked from Czech Republic received a cash prize of $1000 from the homegrown IT major. 

In the 10th edition of the TCS CodeVita contest, India won the first prize, followed by Chile and Taiwan which secured the second and third prizes, respectively.

CodeVita advocates programming as a sport, encouraging players to compete in real-world problems and put their talents against one another. According to the official website, TCS CodeVita is the largest global computer programming competition. It is a 24-hour online programming contest where a participant can log in from anywhere, any time, the website read.
