Gated but Not Safe: Raj Nagar Extension In Grip of Terror as Crime Wave Sweeps Through Societies

Ghaziabad: Raj Nagar Extension, once a haven of peace for young professionals and families, has become shrouded in fear. A rash of burglaries has residents looking over their shoulders, questioning their sense of security. The latest victim, Avinash Beriwal, find his H-block apartment, KW Society in shambles. This was the second such incident in his block this month, following Kamya Ahuja’s ordeal where valuables worth ₹15 lakh vanished.

The frustration is palpable. Residents like Avinash and Kamya accuse the local authorities of inaction. “There’s been no progress on the previous case, and now this?” lamented Avinash, his voice tight with anger. “It’s like they don’t care.”

The fear extends beyond apartment break-ins. Just days ago, Reema, a resident of Devika Skylark Towers, was accosted by two motorcycle-borne men. They snatched her gold chain in a brazen act of daylight robbery.

Similar stories echo across the sprawl of Raj Nagar Extension. Fortunes Residency, another gated community, has witnessed its own share of break-ins, leaving residents feeling like sitting ducks. The irony is not lost on them.

These societies boast CCTV cameras and security guards, yet the criminals seem to operate with impunity.

The lack of a dedicated police station in the area further fuels the residents’ anxieties. With over 2 lakh people residing in more than 65 societies, Raj Nagar Extension feels like a forgotten island in a sea of rising crime.

The silence from the authorities is deafening. The residents, tired of waiting for a solution, are taking matters into their own hands. WhatsApp groups buzz with discussions about increased vigilance and neighborhood watch programs. Some residents are even considering investing in private security patrols.

But the question lingers: is this enough? Can a community, once known for its camaraderie, truly become a fortress against a seemingly emboldened criminal element?

One resident, Mrs. Tyagi, a sprightly senior citizen, voiced a sentiment echoed by many. “We built our lives here seeking peace and security. Now, we’re prisoners in our own homes. We need the authorities to wake up before it’s too late.”

The future of Raj Nagar Extension hangs in the balance. Will the shadows of fear continue to grow, or will a collective effort from residents and authorities push them back, restoring a sense of safety to this once idyllic community? Only time will tell.
