CDS Bipin Rawat Named Chair Of Excellence

India paid tribute to the country’s first Chief of Defense Staff Bipin Rawat on his birth anniversary today i.e. on March 16. After the death of the country’s first CDS General Bipin Rawat, it is his first birth anniversary and the whole country is remembering him.

On the occasion of 65th birth anniversary of General Rawat, Indian Army has announced ‘Chair of Excellence’ at USI in memory of General Rawat. Army Chief General MM Naravane announced the establishment of a ‘Chair of Excellence’ at the ‘United Service Institution of India’ (USI) in the memory of India’s first Chief of Defense Staff (CDS) General Bipin Rawat. The Army said, “The Chair of Excellence is a tribute to the acumen and professional expertise of General Rawat.

Some things to know about General Bipin Rawat

1.) Born in 1958 in Pauri, Uttarakhand, General Rawat joined the Indian Army in December 1978 after graduating from the Indian Military Academy in Dehradun.

2.) While completing his graduation from the Indian Military Academy, he was awarded the prestigious ‘Sword of Honour’ and was commissioned into the 5th Battalion of the Eleventh Gorkha Rifles.

3.) During a long and distinguished career, General Rawat commanded the Army’s Infantry Division along the Line of Actual Control in the Eastern Sector as well as Corps in the Northeast and other important areas.

4.) General Rawat was the Chief of the Indian Brigade in the UN Peace Keeping Operation in Congo in 2008. There he received much appreciation from his leadership. Bipin Rawat saved 7000 lives with his vigilance in time.

5.) General Rawat was named India’s first Chief of Defense Staff (CDS) on December 30, 2019.

6.) General Rawat’s family has served in the army for generations and his father Laxman Singh Rawat was a lieutenant general.

7.) Under the leadership of General Bipin Rawat, the army went across the border and destroyed the terrorist camps and killed many terrorists.

8.) Even before this, General Rawat’s plane had crashed six years ago. This incident happened on 3rd February 2015. It is said that engine failure was the reason behind the accident.

9.) General Bipin Rawat prepared such a strategy in the valley in which the terrorists were trapped. Top commanders of Hizbul, Lashkar, Jaish including terrorist Burhan Wani were killed.

10.) Jan General Rawat was awarded the Padma Vibhushan, India’s second highest civilian award. The award will be given posthumously at the decoration ceremony to be held at Rashtrapati Bhavan.
