Army’s sniffer canine “Axel” : Salute to the fallen soldier
Srinagar : Army salutes the valour and sacrifice of the fallen soldier, this time a 4 legged Indian Army assault canine’ named “Axel” who laid down his life in the line of duty during operation at Wanigambala in Baramulla on Saturday.
The 2 year old Belgian Malinois latched onto the terrorist despite being shot repeatedly, as he sustained over 10 wounds besides three gunshots, saving lives of many soldiers involved in the operation. He attained martyrdom during an anti-terror operation in Kashmir’s Baramulla district on Sunday. The canine pinpointed the location of a holed-up terrorist and thus protected a mosque in the vicinity, lives of innocent civilians and soldiers. The terrorist was killed by security forces after an 8 hour operation.
Axel was given full military honors and laid to rest in a solemn military ceremony. Just feel the love and respect. Salute to the brave canine who made the supreme sacrifice.

A wreath-laying ceremony was held on Sunday for the fallen canine who was part of the 26 Army Dog Unit and carried the number ’74B7′ during its service.
