Youth Dies After Falling into Drain in Shalimar Garden; Locals Cite Alcohol Influence
Ghaziabad, May 11, 2025 – A tragic incident unfolded in Shalimar Garden, Trans-Hindon area, on Sunday evening around 4:30 PM when a young man lost his life after falling into a drain. The deceased, identified as Manoj, son of Ganeshlal, was reportedly under the influence of alcohol when the mishap occurred.
According to eyewitness accounts, Manoj was sitting on the edge of a narrow culvert over the drain. Locals believe that due to his intoxicated state, he lost his balance and slipped into the water. Alarmed residents immediately alerted the police, who reached the spot and initiated rescue efforts.
It took nearly an hour and a half of intense effort, with the help of professional divers, to retrieve the body from the drain. Manoj’s identity was confirmed through a bag found near the culvert, containing personal belongings.
The deceased was employed as a ward boy at a private hospital in Ghaziabad and resided with his family in DLF Colony under Shalimar Garden Police Station limits. His brother-in-law, who arrived at the scene, confirmed his identity and profession.
The body has been sent for post-mortem, and further investigation is underway. The incident has raised concerns among residents about safety measures near open drains and culverts, especially in densely populated localities.
