Transport Standstill: Bus Unions Declare Strike in Protest Against New Road Law

Ghaziabad, Uttar Pradesh: The roadways in the state of Uttar Pradesh have come to a grinding halt as a result of an indefinite strike announced by the unaffiliated bus unions and district bus unions in protest against the new road laws. The strike, in effect from January 1 to January 30, 2024, has severely impacted the state’s transportation system, causing significant inconvenience to a large number of commuters, who are struggling to reach their destinations. Traffic congestion has also become a significant issue in the wake of the strike.

It is noteworthy that the provisions of the new law have not been implemented yet. The nature of the law can only be defined after its enactment. In the meantime, regional managers of the transport corporation and assistant regional managers are urged to hold discussions with union officials to address the concerns of the general public and facilitate the smooth operation of buses once again.

In response to the strike against the new road law, the Uttar Pradesh Transport Commissioner has directed all District Magistrates to engage in discussions with Regional Transport Officers and union representatives. The aim is to resolve the issues and bring an end to the strike, ensuring the resumption of regular bus services across the state.
