Ghaziabad: Ghaziabad witnessed a heartbreaking incident late at night when Woman Sub-Inspector Richa Sachan, posted at the Kavi Nagar police station, lost her life in a road accident. Originally from Kanpur, Richa was living in a rented accommodation at Mahindra Enclave. She was returning home from duty around 2 a.m. when the accident occurred at Karte Chowk in Shastri Nagar.
According to eyewitness accounts, a stray dog suddenly came in front of her Bullet motorcycle, causing her to lose control and fall on the road. In the fall, she hit a car and sustained a severe head injury. Despite being rushed to Sarvodaya Hospital, doctors declared her dead after prolonged efforts to revive her.
Reports suggest that this was not the first time Richa had been in an accident. Last year too, she had suffered serious injuries to her leg and arm in a mishap. Sadly, this time the injuries proved fatal. Police officials confirmed that a post-mortem examination would be conducted later in the evening.
The untimely demise of the young officer has left her colleagues and seniors in deep sorrow. Richa, a 2023 batch officer, was known for her dedication to duty and was returning home after completing her late-night assignment when the tragedy struck.
The incident has once again highlighted the growing menace of stray dogs on city roads. With increasing cases of accidents caused by sudden encounters with strays, residents are raising concerns over the inaction of civic authorities. “This is extremely tragic,” said Deepanshu Mittal, a resident of Rajnagar Extension. “There are too many stray dogs on the streets, and while people show love for them outside their homes, the lack of effective management has put lives at risk. The municipal corporation must take immediate action in line with the directives of the Hon’ble Court.”
The loss of Richa Sachan serves as a grim reminder of the hazards faced by commuters at odd hours and the urgent need for better road safety measures and stray dog management in Ghaziabad.
