Ghaziabad | May 25, 2025
In a swift response to rising street crimes, the Link Road Police team under the Ghaziabad Commissionerate apprehended a notorious snatcher following a brief but intense encounter near Maharajpur temple tri-junction.
The incident occurred on morning during routine checking of vehicles arriving from Delhi. A man riding a suspicious, numberless scooter was signaled to stop by the police at the checkpoint. Instead of complying, the suspect turned around and attempted to flee toward Maharajpur, raising suspicion.
Police gave chase, and the man sped off toward a rough, open field behind Kaushambi Bus Stand. Due to the uneven terrain, the scooter skidded and crashed. When cornered, the accused allegedly fired directly at the pursuing officers. In retaliatory action taken in self-defense, police shot the suspect, injuring him.
The suspect has been identified as Vivek, son of Vijaypal, a 24-year-old resident of Shivvanpura under Sihani Gate police station. He was immediately taken to a nearby hospital for medical treatment.
The police recovered:
- A country-made .315 bore pistol
- One live cartridge and one used cartridge
- A stolen scooter
- ₹1,700 in cash earned from selling snatched mobile phones
During interrogation, Vivek admitted to committing multiple snatching incidents:
- On April 29, he snatched a mobile phone from a woman near Vaishali Metro Station
- On April 23, he committed a similar crime near Mohan Nagar Metro Station
He confessed to selling the stolen phones to random passersby for cash, which he used to fund his drug addiction. Police have linked him to several other snatching cases across various police jurisdictions in Ghaziabad.
Legal proceedings are underway, and the Link Road Police have stated that efforts are being intensified to trace other incidents linked to Vivek and dismantle any wider snatching networks operating in the area.
