Sewer Overflow in Nyay Khand-I, Indirapuram: Residents Struggle Amid Neglect

Indirapuram : The residents of Nyay Khand-I in Indirapuram are grappling with a severe crisis caused by overflowing sewage in multiple lanes. Streets are inundated with sewage water, with some houses witnessing the disturbing sight of the dirty water seeping indoors. Several families have already vacated their homes, and more are considering relocating due to the unbearable conditions.

Persistent Efforts by the Councillor
Local Councillor Harish Kadakoti has been tirelessly working to address this crisis. From meeting junior engineers to the Municipal Commissioner, he has lodged multiple complaints and followed up consistently. Officials have assured that a dedicated sewer-cleaning team will commence work in the area by February 1, equipped with necessary machinery to tackle the issue.

Councillor Kadakoti begins his day at 7 a.m., inspecting the lanes and addressing residents’ grievances, whether related to sewer problems, waste management, electricity issues, or park maintenance. Despite his relentless efforts, the residents remain deeply frustrated, regularly bombarding him with complaints.

Residents’ Plight
The overflowing sewage has made life miserable for the locals. Streets are unwalkable, and children and elderly residents face significant challenges navigating the area. The stench and unsanitary conditions have led to health concerns, forcing families to consider leaving their homes.

Systemic Issues and Delays
The problem is rooted in the negligence of the Ghaziabad Development Authority (GDA). For the past eight months, regular sewer maintenance was neglected. Instead of comprehensive cleaning, temporary fixes were implemented, leading to recurring blockages. The cumulative effect of this neglect has resulted in a complete breakdown of the sewer system.

The handover process between GDA and the Municipal Corporation is underway, but this transition has been marred by confusion and delays. According to the Municipal Corporation, GDA was supposed to oversee sewer cleaning and maintenance until March. However, the GDA seemingly abandoned its responsibilities, leaving the residents to suffer.

Assurances from Officials
Municipal Commissioner and Mayor have stated that tenders for sewer maintenance have been finalized, and work will begin soon. They assured that the issues would be resolved promptly.

Warning of Protest
Councillor Kadakoti has warned that if the sewer problems persist, he will lead a protest with residents against the GDA and the concerned departments. “The GDA shirked its duties even before the handover, creating a mess for the Municipal Corporation to handle,” he said.

The Bigger Picture
The residents demand a long-term solution to ensure regular sewer maintenance and effective coordination between GDA and the Municipal Corporation. The lack of accountability and delayed action has left them frustrated, demanding immediate intervention to restore normalcy.

As of now, the residents of Nyay Khand-I wait anxiously for the promised action, hoping that February 1 will mark the beginning of relief from the ongoing ordeal.
