Roof Collapse in Meerut Police Lines Injures Five; ADG Orders Immediate Survey of Dilapidated Buildings

Meerut, August 31, 2025 : A major accident struck the Meerut Police Lines on Sunday when the roof of a dilapidated building collapsed due to heavy rainfall, leaving five family members injured. The incident has raised serious concerns about the safety of police housing quarters, many of which are said to be in dangerous condition.

The collapse occurred late at night in P-Block, where Omkar, a police department employee, lived with his family. As the roof caved in, all five family members were trapped under the debris. Locals rushed to rescue them and immediately informed senior police officials. The injured were quickly taken to a nearby hospital, where four members were discharged after minor treatment, while one remains under medical care.

Top police officials, including ADG Bhanu Bhaskar, visited the site and met the affected family at the hospital. He assured that the family is being shifted to a new building, and directed officials to identify and inspect all unsafe structures across the police lines.

“We have ordered an urgent survey of all such dilapidated houses. Families will be shifted to safer accommodations immediately. No one will be left to live under unsafe roofs,” ADG Bhaskar stated.

The incident has sparked fear and frustration among other families living in the police quarters. Many women residents raised their voices directly to the ADG, demanding an immediate survey and rehabilitation plan, so they no longer have to live under constant fear of collapsing buildings.

With the monsoon rains likely to continue, residents are pressing authorities for swift action, fearing that further neglect could lead to another tragedy.
