Ghaziabad : In an extraordinary display of courage and selflessness, retired Navy Marine Commando DS Negi, a former resident of Sector 25, Jalvayu Vihar, now residing in Indirapuram, saved a man from drowning in a nala near Vasundhara yesterday. The incident, captured on video, shows a crowd standing by, busy filming, while Negi heroically plunged into the nala without hesitation and rescued the drowning man.
DS Negi, who served as a Marine Commando (Marcos) in the Navy, risked his life to save the youth trapped in the water. Speaking to Local Post, DS Negi recounted the incident, which occurred around 4 PM on Monday. He was returning home to Milan Vihar, Indirapuram, from the Navy’s training institute in Sector 1, Noida, when he noticed the youth struggling in the water near Khoda.

“Many people were standing around, but no one stepped in to help,” said Negi. “I did what I felt was my duty. As a professional diver, I jumped into the nala and brought the young man out.”
DS Negi, originally from Bisand village in Pauri Garhwal’s Paavo block, Uttarakhand, served the nation as a Marine Commando from 1985 to 2000. After retiring from the Navy, he worked as a professional diver in the civilian sector since 2003. Before moving to Indirapuram, he lived in Sector 25, Jalvayu Vihar, Noida. His commendable act was brought to light by a friend, H K Gupta, who shared the story on social media.
DS Negi modestly downplayed his heroics, saying, “As a former Navy officer, I did what was my duty. I believe that every citizen should take responsibility in such situations.”
The youth’s identity remains unknown, and after ensuring his safety, Negi quietly returned home.
The local community and various public figures have since praised DS Negi’s bravery, calling on both the central and state governments to honor him for his act of valor.
