Residents’ Body Submits Memorandum Against Property Tax Hike in Ghaziabad

Rajnagar, Ghaziabad | May 21, 2025
In a strong show of resistance against the recent hike in property tax, senior office-bearers of the Confederation of RWAs – Uttar Pradesh (CoRWA-UP) submitted a memorandum addressed to the Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh today. The delegation presented the memorandum at the district headquarters to ADM (Finance) Saurabh Bhatt, voicing their protest against what they termed an unjust and excessive burden on citizens.
Leading the charge, Colonel Tejendra Pal Tyagi (Retd), Chief Patron of CoRWA-UP, stated that despite Uttar Pradesh being one of the economically strongest states, residents are being forced to bear the highest property tax in the country – ₹4 per square foot, without any concessions for carpet area or old constructions.
“This move is both arbitrary and insensitive,” said Dr. R.K. Arya, Chief Advisor of CoRWA-UP, and Kailash Chandra Sharma, General Secretary. “As per norms, property tax cannot be increased by more than double in one go, but the Ghaziabad Municipal Corporation has exceeded that threshold,” they alleged.
The delegation also included Richa Sood, Nem Pal Chaudhary, Mahesh Sharma, and Gaurav Bansal, who jointly expressed deep concern over the financial strain on middle-class families. “We outrightly reject the revised tax structure. If our demands are not met, we will appeal to Ghaziabad citizens to withhold property tax payments as a mark of civil protest,” they warned.
The memorandum urges the state government to:
- Reconsider and reduce the property tax rate
- Introduce concessions for carpet area and older buildings
- Ensure public consultation before implementing such tax hikes
The protest marks a growing unrest among Ghaziabad residents over civic decisions that they feel are being taken without transparency or concern for public welfare. CoRWA-UP has announced that it will intensify its agitation if their concerns are not addressed in a timely manner.
