Police Negligence Escalates Routine Passport Verification into Tragedy: Woman Shot in Aligarh Station

Aligarh: In a shocking incident at the Kotwali Police Station in Aligarh today, a woman sustained a gunshot wound to her head due to the apparent negligence of Sub-Inspector Manoj Kumar Sharma during a routine passport verification process. The victim, identified as Ishrat, had accompanied her son to the police station for passport verification when the incident occurred.

The incident, captured on CCTV, reveals the careless handling of a government-issued pistol by Sub-Inspector Manoj Kumar Sharma. Ishrat was standing in proximity as the pistol accidentally discharged, hitting her in the back of the head. She was immediately rushed to a nearby medical college in critical condition, where she is currently undergoing treatment for a head injury.

Senior police officials, including the Superintendent of Police (SSP), have swiftly responded to the incident. Sub-Inspector Manoj Kumar Sharma, who fled the scene after the incident, has been declared absconding, and a team has been formed to apprehend him.

The CCTV footage clearly shows the lackadaisical approach of the police officer, who was allegedly inspecting the weapon while on duty. The authorities have expressed deep concern over the incident and promised stringent action against Sharma, ensuring that he faces legal consequences for his negligence.

Ishrat’s family, distraught by the incident, is demanding a thorough investigation and justice for their loved one. Meanwhile, the police department has assured the public that such incidents will not be tolerated, emphasizing the need for accountability and strict adherence to safety protocols within the force.

The incident has raised concerns about the safety measures and protocols followed during routine police procedures. The SSP has ordered a comprehensive review of safety procedures within the department to prevent such incidents in the future.

As the investigation unfolds, the community is left grappling with shock and disbelief over the unfortunate turn of events during what should have been a routine administrative process at the police station.
