Plaster Collapse from 13th Floor in KW Srishti Society Raises Alarm, Sparks Demand for Structural Audits of High-Rise Buildings in Rajnagar Extension

Ghaziabad, July 22:
A major accident was narrowly averted in KW Srishti Society, Rajnagar Extension, after a large section of plaster from a 13th-floor balcony came crashing down onto a food counter below in the society’s market area. The incident, which occurred in the evening, sent shockwaves among residents and shopkeepers. Fortunately, no one was present near the counter at the time, or else the outcome could have been tragic.

Eyewitnesses confirmed that the plaster fell from a 17-foot-wide balcony, including the entire grill, and landed directly on a food stall. The impact was so severe that the food counter was significantly damaged, reflecting what could have happened had anyone been standing nearby. “Had a customer or vendor been present, serious injuries or even death was certain,” said a resident who arrived moments after the incident.

The society’s residents are now raising serious questions about the construction quality and maintenance of high-rise buildings in the area. Many have pointed out that this is not an isolated incident and warned that similar lapses could result in fatal accidents if preventive action is not taken immediately.

“The Ghaziabad Development Authority (GDA) must conduct urgent structural audits of all high-rise societies in Rajnagar Extension,” urged a resident welfare association member. “These buildings are homes to thousands of families. We cannot wait for a fatality before action is taken.”

With the area witnessing rapid urban development and a mushrooming of high-rise residential projects, the demand for enforcing strict structural safety norms has grown louder. Experts also recommend periodic third-party construction audits and public disclosure of maintenance reports for transparency and accountability.

An initial damage assessment is underway, and no injuries have been reported so far. However, the incident stands as a stark reminder of the hidden dangers lurking in poorly maintained or constructed residential buildings.
