Negligence in Ghaziabad: Open Drain in Indirapuram Market Sends Youth on Scooter Crashing In, Video Sparks Outrage

Ghaziabad. Yet another shocking case of civic negligence has come to light in Ghaziabad, where a young man narrowly escaped death after falling into an uncovered drain. The incident occurred in the busy market area of Gaur Green City, Indirapuram, Ward 99, where the Municipal Corporation had opened the drain for cleaning but allegedly forgot to cover it afterward.

The Shocking Incident

According to eyewitnesses, the youth had come to the market to buy essentials. As he turned his scooter after shopping, he plunged straight into the open drain. The entire incident was captured on video, which has since gone viral on social media. In the clip, the man can be seen losing balance as his scooter tips over into the gaping drain, drawing horrified reactions from onlookers.

It was only after nearby children raised an alarm that a private security guard rushed to the spot with a ladder and managed to pull the injured man out. Reports say the youth sustained multiple injuries but miraculously survived what could have been a fatal accident.

Public Anger Against Civic Apathy

Local residents are furious, claiming they had repeatedly complained to the authorities about the open drain but no action was taken. “Are officials waiting for someone to die before they act?” one resident remarked angrily.

The incident has once again raised serious questions about the Ghaziabad Municipal Corporation’s accountability and the lack of basic safety measures in public spaces. While it remains unclear whether the cleaning work was even carried out, the failure to cover the drain has put countless lives at risk in one of the city’s busiest markets.

Viral Outrage, Demands for Action

As the video continues to circulate online, residents are demanding strict action against the negligent officials and immediate covering of the drain. Civic activists say the incident is not an isolated one but part of a larger pattern of chronic mismanagement and negligence by the corporation.

For the injured youth, timely intervention by a guard saved his life — but residents fear the next victim may not be so lucky.
