Massive Fire at Bhikanpur Dumping Ground Sparks Health Hazard: Residents Demand Urgent Action

A massive fire broke out yesterday evening at the Ghaziabad Nagar Nigam dumping ground located in Bhikanpur village on Pipeline Road, allegedly due to the negligence of the contractor’s staff. The fire has since spiraled into a major environmental and health crisis, blanketing large parts of Ghaziabad and surrounding villages in toxic smoke.

Residents report that the suffocating fumes have made breathing difficult, forcing many to stay indoors and causing panic, especially among children, the elderly, and those with respiratory conditions.

Local sources allege that contractual negligence and poor waste management practices are to blame for the inferno. The dumping ground, meant for solid waste disposal, reportedly lacked proper safety measures to prevent such incidents.

Concerned citizens are now urging the District Magistrate, Police Commissioner, and Municipal Commissioner to take immediate and strict action. “If decisive steps are not taken right away, the fire and the poisonous smoke could end up claiming lives,” warned residents who gathered at the site early this morning.

Environmental activists and local leaders have demanded:

  • An immediate firefighting operation to douse the flames completely
  • A health emergency response team to assist affected residents
  • A thorough inquiry into the role of the contractor and corporation officials
  • Long-term waste management solutions to prevent future hazards

This incident is a grim reminder of the urgent need for better urban waste management and civic accountability. The residents of Bhikanpur and nearby villages are now looking to the administration for relief, resolution, and responsibility.

“Lives are at stake — we need action, not excuses,” said a local community member.

Updates to follow as the situation develops.
