Man Arrested for Spreading Fake News About Home Minister’s Death

Ghaziabad : A man has been arrested in Ghaziabad’s Indirapuram area for spreading false news about the death of the Union Home Minister on social media. The case was registered at the Indirapuram police station following a complaint by Anil Sharma, BJP’s Mandal President.
Anil Sharma reported that a Facebook page named Viral in India circulated a fake post claiming the Home Minister’s death. The post created unnecessary panic and confusion in society. Acting swiftly, the Indirapuram Police initiated an investigation under Section 353(2) of the Indian Penal Code and Section 67 of the Information Technology Act.
On December 25, 2024, with the assistance of the Cyber and Surveillance team, the police identified and arrested the accused, identified as Radhesh Kumar, a 34-year-old resident of Shilpur village, Mirzapur district. The accused was apprehended from Vasundhara in Ghaziabad.
During interrogation, Radhesh Kumar admitted to posting the fake news. He revealed that the motive behind the misleading post was to make his Facebook page viral and increase its followers.
The accused has been charged under Sections 170, 126, and 135 of the Indian Penal Code and relevant provisions of the Information Technology Act. Further legal action is underway, and the police have warned the public against sharing unverified information on social media platforms.
Police Appeal
The Ghaziabad Police have urged citizens to avoid spreading or believing unverified news on social media. They emphasized that strict action will be taken against those involved in spreading misinformation, which can disturb public peace.
