Major Accident Averted in Shalimar Garden After Two Transformer Poles Collapse

Ghaziabad : A major accident was narrowly avoided on Saturday morning in the Shalimar Garden area of Vikram Enclave, after two electric poles carrying heavy transformers suddenly collapsed. The incident occurred around 8:00 a.m. in front of Plot No. 9, Vikram Enclave, creating panic in the locality.
According to residents, both poles, each mounted with a transformer-snapped without warning and came crashing down with a deafening noise. The falling transformers damaged two parked cars, leaving their roofs and windshields smashed.
Fortunately, no pedestrians or commuters were passing by at the moment, preventing what could have been a tragic accident. Locals said the area is typically busy at that hour, with children heading to school and people leaving for work.
Residents blamed the gross negligence of the electricity department, alleging that the poles were old, unstable, and had not been inspected or reinforced despite repeated complaints.
“It is pure luck that no one was injured or killed. These poles had been bending for months, and we kept requesting officials to repair them, but no action was taken,” said a resident of the area.
Following the collapse, electricity supply was disrupted, and officials from the power department arrived at the spot for emergency repairs. However, angry residents demanded accountability and immediate replacement of all weak poles in the neighborhood.
The incident has once again raised concerns about infrastructure safety in densely populated residential areas, where defective poles and overloaded transformers pose a constant threat.
Authorities are yet to issue a formal statement regarding the cause of the collapse or plans for corrective action.
