Gunfire in Rajnagar Extension’s Harmony Point Market Claims One Life, Another Injured

A routine Sunday evening turned chaotic in Rajnagar Extension when gunshots were fired in the bustling Harmony Point Market, just opposite the Classic Society. The incident occurred around 9 PM, during peak rush hour, when the weekly Sunday bazaar attracts hundreds of local residents.
Despite the area being known for its high footfall and its proximity to a local police outpost, just a few steps away, the assailants managed to execute a deadly attack and flee the scene.
What Happened?
According to eyewitnesses, two unidentified individuals opened fire near the market, causing panic among shoppers. RahuI, a local youth, sustained severe injuries and was rushed to a nearby hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries during treatment. Another young man, Ashish, was also injured and is currently undergoing medical care.
The crowded market erupted in chaos as vendors and visitors scrambled for safety.
Police Response
In an official statement, a police spokesperson said:
“We have identified two suspects who are currently absconding. Multiple teams have been deployed, and arrests will be made soon. CCTV footage from the area is being reviewed, and eyewitnesses are being questioned to reconstruct the sequence of events.”
Police have not yet confirmed the motive behind the shooting, though initial reports suggest a possible personal dispute .
Rising Safety Concerns
Residents of Classic Society and the broader Rajnagar Extension area have voiced growing concerns over public safety. “This was not some deserted corner this happened in a crowded market during a weekly bazaar, right under police presence. If this can happen here, what’s next?” said a local shopkeeper.
Calls for enhanced security, better patrolling during market hours, and faster emergency response systems are growing louder in the aftermath of the incident.
