GST Raid at Popular Ghaziabad Eatery: Allegations of Tax Evasion

Ghaziabad : In a significant development, the GST team conducted a raid on the residence of the proprietor of the well-known eatery “Saiya ji Puri Wala” in Ghaziabad. The operation, prompted by allegations of tax evasion, commenced on Thursday and is expected to continue throughout the night.

The raid, led by the Additional Commissioner of the State Tax Department from Ghaziabad Zone II, aimed to uncover discrepancies between the eatery’s reported earnings and the taxes paid. The eatery, famous for its puris and vegetables, is a popular spot near Maliwada Chowk.

According to officials, the raid was initiated after suspicions arose that the proprietor was significantly underreporting his earnings to evade taxes. “Based on preliminary findings, there appears to be a substantial gap between the actual sales and the taxes paid,” the Additional Commissioner stated. “Our team is meticulously reviewing all relevant documents and sales records.”

The raid involves a thorough investigation into daily sales figures and a detailed examination of financial records. The GST team will compile a comprehensive report based on their findings, which will determine the subsequent steps in the investigation.

Residents and local business owners have expressed mixed reactions to the raid. Some view it as a necessary measure to ensure tax compliance, while others are concerned about the impact on local businesses.

The outcome of this raid could have significant implications for the proprietor of Saiya Puri Wala and serve as a warning to other businesses about the importance of tax compliance. The GST team is expected to release a detailed report once the raid concludes, which will shed more light on the extent of the alleged tax evasion and the potential legal consequences for the eatery’s owner.
