Ghaziabad, December 18, 2024 – In a heart-wrenching and sensational development, Ghaziabad police uncovered a disturbing case of exploitation and religious coercion that led a young woman to end her life on December 11. Following an intense investigation, the main accused, 38-year-old Faraz Athar, has been arrested.
The incident occurred in the Kotwali Nagar area, where a young woman, unable to bear the psychological, physical, and economic torment inflicted by Faraz, set herself ablaze. The tragic event has sparked outrage across the community and shone a spotlight on exploitation under the guise of love and marriage.
The Sinister Plot Unfolded
Evidence recovered from the victim’s phone, including chat records, voice messages, and religious texts, revealed a calculated and manipulative relationship. Faraz, a resident of Shahdara, Delhi, had been in contact with the victim for over five years, during which he deceitfully promised marriage while systematically exploiting her.
- Religious Coercion and Conversion
Faraz pressured the victim to convert to Islam, providing her with Quranic texts and teaching her Islamic rituals, including namaz. Succumbing to his influence, the victim began practicing the faith, which deeply distressed her ailing father. Notably, the legal requirement of submitting a conversion request to the district magistrate 60 days prior was ignored. - Financial Exploitation
Faraz exploited the victim’s financial vulnerabilities, extracting over ₹6.55 lakh from her under the pretense of dowry demands and fabricated debts. His ultimate goal was allegedly to usurp her property worth crores. - Physical Exploitation and Drug Abuse
The accused reportedly subjected the victim to physical abuse and introduced her to drug use, including “monkey drugs.” The victim suffered a forced abortion after becoming pregnant. - Manipulation and Betrayal
Faraz continuously delayed marriage discussions while making additional dowry demands. Days before the tragic incident, he reportedly demanded that the victim transfer her property to him. On the day of her death, the victim made 120 unanswered calls to Faraz, sending a final voice message threatening self-harm.
