Ghaziabad Sees Protest Against 400% House Tax Hike: Congress Submits Memorandum, Demands Immediate Rollback

Ghaziabad | June 3, 2025:
In a strong show of dissent, hundreds of Congress party workers and local citizens gathered today at the Nagar Nigam main office in Nav Yug Market, Ghaziabad, to protest against the proposed 400% hike in house tax. Led by Congress District President Satish Sharma and District Coordinator Shivram Valmiki, the demonstration culminated in a formal memorandum being submitted to the Chief Municipal Officer, urging the immediate withdrawal of the controversial proposal.
Protesters expressed deep resentment toward the Ghaziabad Municipal Corporation’s plan, calling it “anti-public” and “financially oppressive.” The memorandum highlighted that such a drastic increase is unjustified, especially at a time when the public is still grappling with the aftereffects of the COVID-19 pandemic, rising debt, and record inflation levels.
“During the pandemic, thousands lost their livelihoods. Even now, as a new wave of concern emerges, the administration is adding to the people’s distress instead of offering relief. A 400% increase is unacceptable and completely against public welfare,” said Satish Sharma, addressing the gathering.
The protestors also criticized the BJP-led Nagar Nigam for what they termed a “repressive approach” toward governance, accusing the elected officials of turning their backs on the promises made to voters. They demanded the proposed house tax hike be revoked immediately in the interest of the common man.
Prominent personalities in attendance included Vir Singh Jatav (Mahanagar President), Satish Tyagi, Shashi Bhushan Sharma, Narendra Rathi, Manoj Kaushik (former Mahanagar President), Dr. Abhishek Tyagi, Ashwini Tyagi, Rishipal Dhingan, Haji Riyasat Ali, Rajeev Sharma, and many more. The event saw participation from members across SC/ST, minority, and women’s wings of the party, showing a unified front against the tax proposal.
The Congress party has pledged to continue its opposition through legal and democratic means if the demands are not met. The protest ended with calls for further public mobilization in the coming days should the administration fail to act in the citizens’ interest.
