Ghaziabad Police Arrest Five, Including Two Women, in Kavinagar Chain-Snatching Gang ; Kingpin Still at Large

Ghaziabad :In a major breakthrough, the Kavinagar Police have arrested five members of a notorious chain-snatching gang, including two women and three men, who were behind a series of street robberies that had spread panic in residential areas of the city. Police are now hunting for the gang’s main kingpin, Shyama, who remains on the run.
The arrested suspects have been identified as Rama, Monty, Chintu, Manju Rani, and Rajni. Police have also recovered several broken gold chain pieces, three gold-like beads, and ₹4,570 in cash from their possession.
According to ACP Kavinagar Surya Bali Maurya, multiple complaints of chain and mobile snatching were recently filed by morning walkers in Govindpuram and Raj Nagar areas. “In the past few weeks, we received three complaints from Govindpuram and two from Raj Nagar. The robbers, mostly on motorcycles, targeted men and women during early morning hours,” Maurya said.
Police began tracking the suspects through CCTV footage and local informants, eventually uncovering the gang — a family-led criminal operation that had been active since 2019.
Investigations revealed that Rama and Shyama, the twin brothers at the center of the gang, carried out the chain and mobile snatching incidents, while their sisters Manju Rani and Rajni sold the stolen jewelry in local markets. The women posed as distressed sellers, claiming financial trouble or illness in the family to avoid suspicion.
What made the gang especially difficult to catch was the identical appearance of the twin brothers. “Whenever police caught Rama, he would claim Shyama was the real culprit — and vice versa. Their identical looks helped them evade arrest several times,” an officer said.
However, this time, Rama’s deception failed. The police, armed with strong evidence, arrested him along with his sisters and two other accomplices, Monty and Chintu. The search continues for Shyama, Monu, and Pankaj, who are believed to have fled the city.
Police say the gang had a long criminal record, with multiple cases of snatching and robbery filed against them over the years. The stolen goods were routinely sold for quick cash, which the accused allegedly spent on lavish living and personal indulgences.
ACP Maurya said that this arrest has “broken the backbone of a family-run chain-snatching network” and assured that police patrols have been intensified in the region to prevent further such incidents.
The accused have been booked under multiple sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) 2023, and efforts are underway to apprehend the remaining absconding members.
