Gangster Couple’s Feud Turns Deadly: Husband Shoots Wife in Ghaziabad, Flees After Killing

Ghaziabad, October 14: A shocking murder in Ghaziabad’s Raj Nagar Extension has exposed the violent history of a gangster couple. The incident occurred at Ajnara Integrity Society, where Vikas Sahalawat, a known gangster from Modinagar’s Tibda village, shot his wife Ruby Chaudhary dead after a heated argument on Tuesday morning and fled the scene.
According to police, Vikas, who had been away for several days, returned home and began searching for his passport and Aadhaar card, which Ruby had allegedly hidden to prevent him from fleeing abroad. When she resisted handing them over, a fierce altercation broke out between the two. In a fit of rage, Vikas pressed his pistol to Ruby’s neck and pulled the trigger, killing her on the spot. He then dragged her body to the bathroom, locked the door, and escaped.
The couple’s 11-year-old daughter, who was at home preparing for school, witnessed the entire incident. She told police that her father shot her mother and warned her to stay inside before leaving. Their elder daughter had already left for school at the time of the crime.
DCP City Dhaval Jaiswal and ACP Nandgram Upasana Pandey reached the spot soon after being informed and began an investigation. Police teams have recovered evidence from the apartment, and the body has been sent for post-mortem. Three teams have been formed to track down the absconding accused.
Police have confirmed that both Vikas and Ruby had criminal backgrounds. Vikas faces three serious cases, including murder and criminal conspiracy, while Ruby was also named in three criminal cases, including a murder-for-hire case. The couple had moved to Ajnara Integrity Society after selling ancestral land in Modinagar and had been living there with their two daughters. For the past three months, their marital disputes had escalated, reportedly over financial and personal issues.
Investigations have revealed that Ruby had a history of violence. In 2019, her brother Dipendra was shot dead following a business rivalry. Ruby allegedly vowed revenge and later hired contract killers to murder Akshay Sangwan, who was accused of killing her brother. Police records show Ruby, along with her husband Vikas and others, was booked for Akshay’s murder and went absconding before being arrested 13 days later.
Officials believe Vikas had recently planned to flee the country, but Ruby’s decision to hide his travel documents triggered the deadly confrontation. The gruesome killing has left residents of the high-rise society in shock.
Police say the search for Vikas is ongoing and have assured that the fugitive will be arrested soon.
