Former UP Minister Yakub Quraishi’s Illicit Assets Worth INR 31.77 Crores Seized by Meerut Police

Meerut, Uttar Pradesh — In a major development, Meerut Police have confiscated unlawfully acquired movable and immovable assets worth approximately INR 31 crores 77 thousand 200 from Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) leader and former Uttar Pradesh minister Yakub Quraishi.

Senior Police Superintendent Rohit Singh Sajwan revealed that acting under the orders of the district court and in accordance with Section 14(1) of the Gangsters Act, the estimated value of Quraishi’s benami (proxy) properties has been seized. Quraishi had reportedly purchased these assets in the names of his relatives and employees.

The confiscated assets include a hospital, two luxury cars, plots, and other properties. Among them is the building of a hospital in Nauchandi, plots acquired by Quraishi in the names of his relatives in Shastri Nagar measuring 3265.35 square meters, 288 square meters, and 213.60 square meters, along with two luxury cars. The police operation, carried out on March 31, 2022, revealed Quraishi’s involvement in illicitly packing meat at a factory in Meerut.

Earlier, in December 2022, Quraishi, his wife Shamzeeda Begum, and both sons, Firoz and Imran, along with 13 others, were named in a case filed under the Gangsters Act. This recent action is a follow-up to the police raid on Quraishi’s meat factory, where ten employees were also apprehended.

The police are rigorously pursuing legal action against Quraishi and his family, emphasizing the crackdown on illegal activities and the illicit accumulation of wealth.
