Five Arrested in Wild Boar Poaching Case in Hastinapur Range, ₹3 Lakh Fine Imposed

Meerut : In a major crackdown against illegal hunting, the Forest Department team in Hastinapur Range, district Meerut, arrested five individuals accused of poaching a wild boar. The arrests were made following a tip-off that villagers from Makdmpur and Khurd Dayalpur had set up electric wires in fields to kill wild boars and were attempting to sell the meat.

Acting swiftly, the forest team raided the area and apprehended five men. During the operation, officials seized around 8 kilograms of wild boar meat, along with skin, hair, and blood remnants. Two motorcycles (a Splendor Pro and a Passion Pro), one digital weighing machine, and two knives used in the crime were also recovered.

Those arrested have been identified as:

  1. Mintu, son of Kalu, resident of Azampur Makdmpur
  2. Naresh Kumar, son of Khemchand, resident of Khurd Dayalpur
  3. Anil, son of Baburam, resident of Makdmpur
  4. Ravindra, son of Agnu, resident of Makdmpur
  5. Dheer Singh, son of Bhagwan Singh, resident of Khurd Dayalpur

A case was registered against them under Sections 29, 50, and 51 of the Wildlife Protection Act, 1972. The accused were presented before DFO Meerut, Vandana Phogat. On admitting their crime and submitting affidavits pledging never to repeat such an act, the department imposed a compensatory fine of ₹3,00,000.

Forest officials emphasized that Hastinapur State Barasingha Sanctuary is a biodiversity-rich floodplain region, home to species like barasingha, deer, and wild boars, and strict protection measures are in place. The department reiterated that hunting wild animals is a punishable offense and issued stern warnings: use of live electric wires, traps, or any illegal devices for hunting will result in strict legal action and jail terms.

The operation was carried out under the supervision of Forest Range Officer Khushboo Upadhyay, with the team including Sanjay Kumar (Forest Inspector), Ankit Kumar (Forest Inspector), Arjun Sharma (Forest Guard), Nitin Kumar (Forest Guard), Om Prakash (Assistant Ranger), Atul Swami (Forest Guard), and watchers Shubham Kumar and Ravi Kumar.
