Fire Breaks Out in Luggage Coach of Purnia Express at Sahibabad Station, No Casualties Reported

Ghaziabad : Panic gripped passengers at Sahibabad Railway Station on Thursday morning when smoke was seen billowing from a luggage coach of the Anand Vihar–Purnia Express Special (05580). The incident occurred shortly after the train departed from Anand Vihar, en route to Purnia.
According to officials, the fire broke out in the luggage coach due to a suspected short circuit. As soon as smoke was detected, the train was halted at Sahibabad Station and the affected coach was quickly detached from the rest of the train. Firefighting teams managed to bring the blaze under control, preventing it from spreading further.
Eyewitnesses reported scenes of panic as passengers initially feared the fire had spread to other coaches. However, railway officials confirmed that the fire was confined to the luggage coach and that no loss of life or injuries occurred. Some goods stored in the coach were destroyed in the blaze.

After ensuring safety, the train was cleared to continue its onward journey to Purnia, albeit without the damaged coach.
A detailed investigation has been launched by the Railway Department to ascertain the exact cause of the fire and to review safety protocols. Officials are also assessing the extent of property damage caused.
This incident once again raises concerns about the safety standards and electrical systems in trains, especially in luggage compartments that often go unchecked.
