Ghaziabad : India is witnessing a noticeable surge in Covid-19 cases as the number of active infections across the country has now crossed 3,000, according to the latest data released by the Union Health Ministry on Saturday. Among states, Kerala leads with 1,336 active cases, followed by Maharashtra and Delhi. In the last 24 hours, four Covid-related deaths were reported, one each in Delhi, Kerala, Karnataka, and Uttar Pradesh.
Covid-19 Situation in Major Cities
- Maharashtra: The state recorded 68 new Covid-19 cases on Saturday, increasing active cases to 485. Mumbai accounted for a significant portion with 32 new cases, while other areas like Pune (19), Thane (16 combined), and smaller districts also reported cases. The health department reassures that most patients have mild symptoms and urges people not to panic.
- Delhi: The capital city recorded 56 new cases, raising active cases to 294. Tragically, three deaths were reported recently, two elderly individuals (a 60-year-old woman and a 71-year-old man) succumbed to the virus. Notably, the latest death marks the first Covid-19 fatality in Delhi this year. Experts highlight the rapid rise in cases but emphasize that the new variant is causing milder illness in most people.
- Kolkata: Active cases have risen to 30, indicating a steady increase.
- Ghaziabad: Two new cases were reported on Saturday, bringing the district’s active case count to 20. Of these, 17 patients are recovering at home while three are receiving treatment in private hospitals. Among the recent cases, a 46-year-old woman from Rajendra Nagar tested positive and is under hospital care. Another patient, a 65-year-old man from Kaushambi, is being treated at home. Both families are reported to be healthy otherwise. Authorities continue to urge residents to exercise caution, wear masks in crowded places, and maintain hygiene.
Expert Insights and Public Advisory
Health experts observe that while the new Covid-19 variant generally causes mild symptoms, it can still seriously affect those with weak immunity or underlying health conditions. Despite the rising numbers, officials advise calm and caution rather than panic.
Dr. R.K. Gupta, District Surveillance Officer of Ghaziabad, urges citizens to continue following safety protocols diligently. “The rise in cases is concerning, but preventive measures like mask-wearing and avoiding crowds can significantly reduce transmission.”
The Ministry of Health continues to monitor the situation closely, issuing guidelines to prevent further spread.
Officials stress that despite the uptick in cases, hospitalizations remain low and health infrastructure is well-prepared to handle potential surges.
What You Can Do:
- Wear masks in crowded or enclosed spaces
- Maintain hand hygiene and social distancing
- Avoid non-essential gatherings
- Monitor health and seek medical help early if symptoms appear
Stay Informed, Stay Safe
As India navigates this new phase of the pandemic, community vigilance and responsible behavior remain key to controlling the spread and protecting lives.
