Commuters Celebrate Inauguration of India’s First RRTS Section, Lauded as a Game-Changer

Ghaziabad: Commuters rejoiced on Saturday as they embarked on a historic journey through India’s maiden Regional Rapid Transit System (RRTS), connecting Sahibabad to the Duhai Depot.

Prime Minister Modi yesterday inaugurated the priority section of the Delhi-Ghaziabad-Meerut RRTS Corridor at the Sahibabad RapidX Station in Uttar Pradesh and ceremoniously flagged off the RapidX train, establishing the launch of the Regional Rapid Transit System (RRTS) nationwide. The cutting-edge Regional Rail, named ‘RAPIDX,’ will operate at an impressive speed of 160 km per hour and boasts an array of amenities, including a dedicated women’s coach and a premium coach, further enhancing the commuter experience.

Thrilled Passengers Share Their Experience

Elated passengers expressed their delight about the new service. “My regular commute route differs, but I came here to witness what’s new. My one-hour journey has been slashed to just half an hour. I’m thrilled about this. The facilities here are excellent,” remarked one traveler, emphasizing the time-saving benefits and high-quality service provided by the RRTS.

Inaugurated Section Commences Passenger Operations

The inaugural passenger operations for this section officially commenced on October 21. This section features five stations: Sahibabad, Ghaziabad, Guldhar, Duhai, and Duhai Depot. Officials have confirmed that RAPIDX is designed for speeds of up to 180 km per hour, offering an operational speed of 160 km per hour. This inaugural corridor will span 82 kilometers, effectively connecting Delhi with Meerut, greatly benefiting commuters along this vital route.

RAPIDX: A Commuter’s Dream

Each RapidX train comprises six coaches, accommodating approximately 1700 commuters with a combination of seating and standing room, ensuring that the system is well-equipped to serve a diverse range of passenger preferences.

Furthermore, RapidX takes passenger comfort and safety seriously, designating a dedicated women’s coach on every train. While heading from Delhi to Meerut, the second coach will be exclusively reserved for women, providing safe and comfortable travel for female passengers. This reserved coach can comfortably seat 72 passengers, and an additional 10 seats for women are allocated throughout other coaches within the train.

Additionally, Shakeel Ahmad made history as the very first passenger to book a ticket through RapidX Connect at 5:36 am, becoming the first person to board the train and successfully complete the journey to Duhai. His enthusiasm mirrored the collective excitement shared by all passengers embarking on this transformative transportation system.
