Bomb Threat to UP Courts Sparks Panic; Meerut District Court Evacuated, Massive Search Operation Launched

  • Second threatening email in a week prompts high alert; security tightened ahead of Bar Association elections

Meerut : Panic gripped the District and Sessions Court complex in Meerut on Monday after authorities received a bomb threat via email warning of an explosion at the court premises. This marks the second such threat within a week, triggering heightened security concerns and a large-scale emergency response by police and security agencies.

Immediately after the threat was reported, the entire court complex was converted into a high-security zone. Heavy police deployment, along with dog squads and Bomb Disposal Squad (BDS) teams, rushed to the site. Authorities evacuated the main building housing 14 courts and cleared the premises as a precautionary measure, causing temporary chaos and fear among lawyers, litigants, and court staff.

Intensive Search Across Premises

Security personnel conducted a thorough search operation covering courtrooms, advocates’ chambers, corridors, parking areas, and vehicles stationed near the complex. Entry and exit points were sealed, and strict checking protocols were enforced to prevent unauthorized access.

Circle Officer (Civil Lines) Abhishek Tiwari stated that every inch of the premises was carefully inspected to ensure public safety. Officials confirmed that no suspicious object or explosive material had been recovered during the search so far, but security vigilance remains at its highest level.

Second Threat Raises Security Concerns

The latest email threat has raised serious questions about security preparedness, especially since police have not yet identified the source of the first threatening message received earlier in the week. Cyber cell teams are currently working to trace the origin of the email and identify those responsible.

Authorities also indicated that security arrangements would remain reinforced, particularly in view of the upcoming Bar Association elections scheduled for Tuesday, which typically witness significant footfall within the court campus.

Lawyers Express Concern

The repeated threats have created anxiety among members of the legal fraternity. Advocates present during the evacuation described scenes of confusion as court proceedings were abruptly halted and people were asked to vacate the premises immediately.

Officials have assured that strict monitoring and preventive measures are being implemented to ensure the safety of judicial infrastructure and the public.

The incident underscores growing concerns over cyber-enabled threats targeting public institutions, prompting calls for stronger digital surveillance and rapid response mechanisms.
