24 Inmates Including A Woman HIV Infected In Saharanpur District Jail

Saharanpur : HIV infection has been confirmed in 24 prisoners in the Saharanpur district jail of Uttar Pradesh. There are one female and 23 males. This has been revealed in the investigation camp organized by the Health Department. The department has sent its report to the jail administration and the government.

The jail administration is engaged in investigating the history of these prisoners so that the source of HIV infection can be known. A letter has been sent to the State AIDS Control Society and Anti Retro Vial Therapy Center (ART Center) for the treatment of these prisoners.

According to the Health Department, the prisoners who have been found infected with HIV are all drug addicts. Most of them are prisoners from Gangoh, Behat, Deoband, and Mirzapur. These prisoners have come to jail in a span of five to seven months. The Health Department is now preparing to collect samples from the families of these prisoners.

There are more than 2200 prisoners in the district jail. A camp was organized for investigation from 15 to 21 June, in which symptoms of TB were seen. Prisoners were also tested for AIDS. The report of 24 has come positive. Five prisoners lodged in the jail are already undergoing treatment for AIDS.

According to Jail Superintendent Anita Dubey, HIV infection has been confirmed in about six prisoners in the investigation camp. There are a total of 24 HIV patients in jail. Most of them are drug addicts. On the other hand, Nodal Officer Dr. Ranveer Singh says that HIV infection has been confirmed in 24 prisoners. Investigation camps were organized in the jail twice in five months. Their report has now come. In these, samples were taken to see the symptoms of TB and AIDS.
