UP Election 2022 : Voting for the second phase of UP continues, reputation of many veterans at stake
In the second phase of the Uttar Pradesh assembly elections, votes are being cast for seven assembly seats in Saharanpur and eight in Bijnor district today. The reputation of many veterans is at stake in these 15 seats. In the 2017 assembly elections, out of seven seats in Saharanpur, the BJP had won four, the SP one and the Congress two. Of the eight seats in Bijnor, the BJP had won six and the SP two. In the by-election held after the death of Noorpur MLA Lokendra Chauhan, this seat went to SPs account. At present, the BJP has five MLAs and the SP has three. Voting will be held in 55 seats of western Uttar Pradesh including Saharanpur, Bijnor on Monday. A total of 160 candidates are in the fray for 15 seats in both the districts. Of these, 71 candidates are trying their luck from Saharanpur and 89 from Bijnor.
The campaigning for the second phase ended on February 12 at 6 pm, but on this day also CM Yogi covered two assembly constituencies in Saharanpur. Before this, veterans of all parties kept coming and leaving political words. Describing their achievements, pointed out the shortcomings of others. Prime Minister Narendra Modi started the election campaign from Saharanpur on 10 February. In Bijnor, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath reached for campaigning thrice. SP chief Akhilesh Yadav and RLD president Jayant also took a dig at the winter-summer here. Deputy Chief Minister Keshav Prasad Maurya came twice. State President Swatantra Dev also appealed to the voters. On 7 February, Prime Minister Modi was to come to Bijnor, but the program was postponed at the last minute and PM made a virtual address from Delhi. RLD also took a jibe at this by tweeting. Even in Saharanpur, the veterans left no stone unturned in the campaign. Prime Minister Modi, Home Minister Amit Shah, Chief Minister Yogi, Union Minister Piyush Goyal, Deputy Chief Minister Keshav Prasad Maurya, SP Supremo Akhilesh Yadav, RLD President Chaudhary Jayant Singh, BSP Supremo Mayawati, Union Minister Sanjeev Balyan and AIAIM President Asaduddin Owaisi also campaigned.
On the last day of the campaign, CM Yogi, referring to the Taliban, said that people with this thinking should understand that the commandos posted at the ATS center work in the same way as the bulldozers work. Videos of controversial statements also went viral. In this area, BSP supremo Mayawati held a meeting only in Saharanpur and tried to reach all the assembly constituencies. Union Minister Sanjeev Balyan and AIAIM President Asaduddin Owaisi also reached and targeted each other.
During the campaign, the ruling party and the opposition focused on the issues of development along with law and order in their speeches. BJP tried to tell the public how much it has done for you and will do more if given a chance. There was also a lot of mention of development and social welfare schemes. Other parties, including the alliance, also apprised the public about the work done during their tenure. Later, as the polling date approached, all the parties started focusing on law and order. Sometimes the Kairana exodus and sometimes the Kawal scandal started resonating. CM Yogi said in his speeches that ATS Commando Training Center is being established in Deoband and PAC Center in Shamli only in terms of security arrangements. The alliance also made a lot of mention of the UP 100 and women helpline established during its tenure. The reputation of many veterans is at stake in the voting going on today. There are many veterans who have changed their side at the last moment. In Saharanpur, former minister and SP candidate Dr. Dharam Singh Saini is in the fray from Nakud assembly seat. In Deoband seat, BJP has bet on sitting MLA Kunwar Brijesh Singh. Former SP minister Sanjay Garg is trying his luck from Saharanpur city seat. Dharam Singh Saini had left the BJP and joined the SP a few days before the election announcement. Imran Masood had also left the Congress and went to the SP, but the SP President did not give him a ticket, but has assured better responsibility if the government is formed.
In Bijnor, former MP and former minister Bharatendra Singh is contesting from BJP from Najibabad seat, while former MP and minister Dr. Yashwant Singh has also been fielded by BJP from Nagina reserved seat. Former minister Moolchand Chauhan is contesting from BSPs Dhampur seat, former MLA Ruchi Veera is contesting from BSPs Bijnor Sadar seat.
Whatever the results may come, but in this great festival of democracy, it is the duty of all of us voters to vote first and only then do some other work. In the last assembly elections, 73.06 percent voter turnout was recorded in Saharanpur and 66.84 percent in Bijnor.
