United Voices Against Healthcare Exploitation: Rakesh Tikait Joins Atul Pradhan’s Hunger Strike Against Private Hospital

Meerut: In a dramatic turn of events, the ongoing protest against the exorbitant bills from private hospitals has taken a new dimension as Samajwadi Party legislator Atul Pradhan continues his hunger strike for the fifth consecutive day. Farmer leader Rakesh Tikait, the face of the recent farmer protests, joined Pradhan at his dharna site in the collectorate in Meerut.

Expressing solidarity with Pradhan, Tikait emphasized that this protest marks a pivotal moment in addressing the concerns related to private hospitals’ billing practices. Tikait stated that for the first time, the issue has led to a united agitation and urged the administration to form a committee to resolve the matter.

Tikait underscored the need for a comprehensive solution to the issue, stating that it would bring relief to the common people. Drawing attention to the alleged malpractices in a hospital during the COVID-19 pandemic, Tikait mentioned a hospital in Meerut where, according to him, 350 people lost their lives due to the removal of oxygen to admit new patients. He expressed concern about the deteriorating situation and warned that if such issues persist in 2024, social media and other platforms might face shutdowns.

Furthermore, Tikait reassured that the fight is not against any political party but for the welfare of farmers and laborers. He urged Pradhan to continue the struggle, asserting that they stand together in the fight against political parties and caste divisions. In a direct message to Pradhan, Tikait stated, “Fight your battle; we are with you.”

The protest at the collectorate has gained significant momentum, with slogans such as “Jai Jawan, Jai Kisan” and “Baba Tikait Amar” resonating among the gathering. Heavy police deployment has been observed at the collectorate, reflecting the gravity of the situation.

Meanwhile, Pradhan’s hunger strike has garnered support from various organizations, including the Bharatiya Kisan Union Tikait faction, Uttar Pradesh Traders’ Association, and employees of Meerut College. The protest site witnessed a lively gathering, and arrangements were made for the participants to ensure they have access to meals.

As the agitation intensifies, Rakesh Tikait addresses to the gathering, added another layer to the unfolding narrative of the protest against private hospital bills. The outcome of this united front against alleged malpractices in healthcare is eagerly awaited, with the potential to shape public opinion and bring about policy changes.
