Two Meerut Cops Booked for ₹20 Lakh Extortion from Thread Trader, Suspended and on the Run
Meerut :A sensational case of alleged police extortion has surfaced in Meerut, where two serving sub-inspectors have been accused of forcibly extracting ₹20 lakh from a local thread trader by threatening to falsely implicate him in a hawala case and send him to jail.
According to official sources, the accused officers, Mahesh Kumar and Lokendra Sahu, posted at Lohia Nagar Police Station, Meerut are alleged to have intimidated the trader, branding him a “hawala operator” and warning of immediate arrest if the money was not paid.
The complaint further alleges that the trader was taken late at night to an undisclosed location, where he was threatened and coerced into paying the extortion amount.
FIR registered after SP City’s report
Following the victim’s written complaint, a preliminary inquiry was conducted by Ayush Vikram, SP City, Meerut. Based on his report, Avinash Pandey, Senior Superintendent of Police, Meerut, ordered the immediate suspension of both sub-inspectors and directed the registration of a criminal case against them.
Police officials confirmed that as soon as the FIR was lodged, both accused officers went absconding. Special teams have been formed to trace and arrest them.
Role of inspector under scanner
In a significant development, the role of Inspector Yogesh Chand has also come under suspicion in the case. Senior police officers have initiated a separate inquiry to ascertain his involvement, if any, in the alleged extortion racket.
Police assure swift arrests
Senior officials have stated that the matter is being treated with utmost seriousness and that the accused officers will be arrested at the earliest and sent to jail.
The incident has triggered serious questions over abuse of authority and internal accountability within the police system, particularly in cases involving businessmen and financial crime allegations.
