Meerut: On the solemn occasion of Kargil Vijay Diwas, a heartfelt tribute was paid to the brave martyrs at the Pine Div War Memorial in Meerut. Brigadier Nikhil Desh Pandey led the homage, honoring the soldiers who laid down their lives during the Kargil War.
The Kargil War, also known as the Kargil Conflict, was fought between India and Pakistan from May to July 1999 in the Kargil district of Jammu and Kashmir. The conflict began when Pakistani soldiers and militants were found to have infiltrated into Indian territory. This resulted in a fierce military engagement that saw the Indian Armed Forces reclaiming the infiltrated positions. The war concluded on July 26, 1999, with India successfully regaining control over the territory. This day is commemorated as Kargil Vijay Diwas to honor the valor and sacrifice of the Indian soldiers.
The Kargil Vijay Diwas ceremony at Pine Div War Memorial was marked by the presence of military officials, veterans, and families of the martyrs. Brigadier Nikhil Desh Pandey, addressing the gathering, highlighted the bravery and determination of the soldiers who fought in the challenging terrains of Kargil.
