Tragic Accident in Meerut: Falling Iron Frame from Rapid Rail Station Kills Scooter Rider
Meerut: In a horrifying incident, a 22-year-old scooter rider named Hrithik lost his life when an iron frame fell from the Rapid Rail station construction site at Shatabdi Nagar, Meerut. The accident occurred in front of Subhash Hotel, shocking onlookers and highlighting severe safety lapses at the construction site.
According to eyewitness TSI Shyoraj Singh, the tragic event unfolded around 5 PM as vehicle traffic was increasing. Numerous vehicles were passing under the Shatabdi Nagar station. Hrithik, traveling at approximately 20 km/h from Partapur towards the city, was riding his scooter when the incident occurred. Fortunately, there were no vehicles within a 10-foot radius around him at that moment, although others were traveling alongside him.
Out of nowhere, an iron frame swayed in the air from the station above and plummeted onto Delhi Road. Hrithik’s scooter had almost passed, but the frame struck the back of his head. He lost control of the scooter, fell to the ground, and bled profusely from the head injury. Witnessing this horrific scene, nearby vehicle drivers immediately braked and rushed to help. Hrithik was quickly transported to a hospital on a bike, but unfortunately, he succumbed to his injuries.

Following Hrithik’s death, his brother-in-law, Vijay Sharma, lodged a complaint against the National Capital Region Transport Corporation (NCRTC) and URC Construction Company. The complaint highlighted significant negligence on the part of URC Construction Company’s manager, Mohan Lal, accusing the company of disregarding safety protocols during construction. It was noted that construction was being carried out without proper road closures and safety nets.
Station House Officer (SHO) Jaikaran confirmed that a case is being registered against NCRTC and URC Construction Company. Hrithik’s family reached Partapur police station around 9 PM, demanding compensation from NCRTC before agreeing to a post-mortem examination. They also protested the insufficient compensation offered by the company and demanded a job for Hrithik’s elder brother. The situation was eventually calmed by the SHO, who reassured the family.
This tragic incident raises critical concerns about construction safety and the enforcement of regulations to prevent such avoidable accidents in the future.
