Silent Saviors of Rajnagar Extension: Celebrating the Everyday Heroes on World Blood Donor Day

A Lifeline in Silence
By Local Post Bureau | Special Feature | World Blood Donor Day – 14 June 2025

As the world commemorates World Blood Donor Day on 14th June, a quiet but deeply impactful movement has been flourishing in Rajnagar Extension and surrounding areas, a movement of selfless giving, humanity, and silent heroism.

Meet the inspiring community behind “RNEx Raktdaan Mahadaan”, a WhatsApp group formed not out of ambition or accolades, but out of pure compassion during the darkest days of the COVID-19 pandemic. In the heart of Rajnagar Extension, far from the spotlight and applause, a group of quiet warriors have been rewriting the meaning of humanity and compassion. They don’t wear capes, and they don’t demand recognition. Their superpower? Giving life-one unit of blood at a time.

In December 2020, when hospitals were overflowing and lives were hanging by a thread for the want of a single unit of blood, Deepanshu Mittal, a resident of Brave Hearts Society, decided to act. He created the RNEx Raktdaan Mahadaan WhatsApp group on 4th December 2020, as a bridge between need and hope. What began as a local initiative is now a lifeline for countless patients.

As the world observes World Blood Donor Day on June 14, the story of the “RNEx Raktdaan Mahadaan” community deserves to be told—not just as a celebration, but as an inspiration.

🌱 Born in Crisis, Built on Compassion

It was December 4, 2020. The nation was reeling under the weight of the COVID-19 pandemic. Hospitals were overwhelmed, oxygen was scarce, and a simple unit of blood had become the difference between life and death for thousands.

Among the many who witnessed this crisis firsthand was Deepanshu Mittal, a resident of Brave Hearts Society in Rajnagar Extension. Watching desperate pleas for blood circulate on social media, knowing that many lives were being lost not due to lack of medical care, but simply due to unavailability of donors, he made a decision:

“If even one life can be saved by our collective effort, we must act-now.”

And thus, the RNEx Raktdaan Mahadaan WhatsApp group was born. What started with just a handful of concerned citizens has now grown into a vibrant, life-saving network of over 800+ voluntary blood donors, serving Ghaziabad and NCR tirelessly for the last five years.

💓 Every Drop a Promise, Every Donor a Hero

Over the years, this group has responded to thousands of emergency calls, rushing to hospitals at odd hours, skipping office meetings, leaving family events midway, just to make sure a stranger gets a second chance at life.

Some members have donated over 20 times, ensuring they follow their personal pledge of quarterly blood donation, a practice that can save up to 12 lives a year, per donor.

These are engineers, teachers, businesspeople, students, and homemakers. People with dreams, responsibilities, and families of their own. Yet, when a call comes, they show up without hesitation.

“We don’t ask for names, religion, caste, or class. We just ask one thing: How soon do you need us?” shares one of the senior volunteers.

It’s not just about blood. It’s about empathy, unity, and a deep-rooted belief that humanity transcends all boundaries.

📱 A Number That Saves Lives

The group operates through a dedicated number – 📞 9015095151 – which anyone in need of blood can contact, any day, any time.

Whether it’s a child battling leukemia, a mother in labor, or a senior undergoing surgery, someone from RNEx Raktdaan Mahadaan answers that call. And they don’t just donate they mobilize, coordinate, and ensure no appeal goes unheard.

🌟 Impact That Echoes Beyond Numbers

Till now, the group has facilitated thousands of successful blood donations, often at critical moments where hospitals had run out of supply. Yet their biggest contribution is not just the blood, it’s the hope they bring, the faith they restore, and the lives they silently uplift.

“My father needed rare blood urgently post-surgery. Within 15 minutes of contacting them, we had two donors at the hospital. They saved my father. I had never met them before, and yet, they showed up like family,” recalls a local resident tearfully.

🌍 A Model for Every Community

What RNEx Raktdaan Mahadaan has achieved isn’t just heartwarming, it’s replicable. With a phone, a group, and a shared mission, any neighbourhood can build its own blood donor ecosystem. All it takes is a few people who believe that no one should die waiting.

🙏 Honouring the Silent Warriors

On this World Blood Donor Day, we salute every member of RNEx Raktdaan Mahadaan-ordinary citizens who’ve chosen an extraordinary path of selfless service. They may not stand on a stage or seek media limelight, but they stand between life and death for hundreds of families and they do it with humility, grace, and love.

To the children who still have their parents…
To the parents who still have their children…
To the strangers who became saviours…

We say thank you.
