Shivangi Sangeet Mahavidyalaya Celebrates World Dance Day with Graceful “Nartan” Festival

Meerut, April 29, 2025 – In a vibrant celebration of culture, rhythm, and tradition, Shivangi Sangeet Mahavidyalaya, located at Gandhi Nagar, Garh Road, Meerut, organized a special event titled “Nartan” on the occasion of World Dance Day. The event featured mesmerizing performances by the institute’s budding artists, leaving an unforgettable impression on the audience.
The event commenced with the ceremonial lighting of the lamp in front of the idol of Goddess Saraswati, symbolizing the auspicious beginning of the program. The inauguration was conducted jointly by the institute’s President Rajesh Sharma, Director Richa Sharma, and Principal Raja Baluni. They praised the young performers wholeheartedly for their dedication and talent.
Director Richa Sharma addressed the gathering and highlighted the significance of World Dance Day. She emphasized how dance is not just a form of artistic expression but also a powerful medium to convey emotions, celebrate life, and maintain physical and mental well-being. She reminded attendees that World Dance Day was introduced in 1982 by the International Dance Council under UNESCO to promote the art of dance globally.



Event Highlights:
- Saraswati Vandana
The event opened with a soulful invocation to Goddess Saraswati, set in Raag Bageshri, titled “Veena Vadini Var De”. This vocal performance was delivered by young talents Deepankar, Fariyad, and Vansh, setting a serene and spiritual tone. - Shiv Rudrashtakam
A classical Kathak performance on the sacred chant Rudrashtakam, structured in Teen Taal, was presented by Vandita and Gun Goyal. The performance paid tribute to Lord Shiva and invoked his cosmic presence through intricate footwork and expressive abhinaya (expression). - Trivat (Duet)
A rare and energetic Kathak duet by Devanshi and Yashasvi, based on Mishra Raag and Teen Taal, captivated the audience. Their presentation not only celebrated the divine aspect of Lord Shiva but also revived a diminishing Kathak format with grace and energy. - Solo Kathak Performance by Varnika Patel
Young artist Varnika Patel delivered an exceptional solo in Dhamar Taal, incorporating toda, tukda, chakradhar tihai, and kavit, all rooted in devotion to Lord Ganesha. Her blend of technical precision and expressive storytelling left the audience spellbound. - Sargam Presentation
A lyrical blend of melody and rhythm in Raag Jog and Teen Taal, the “Sargam” performance showcased synchronized footwork and rhythmic grace by junior students Vandita, Ameesha, and Gun, showcasing their emerging proficiency in Kathak. - Thumri – “Dekho Sakhi Shyam Nithur”
This elegant group performance in Raag Tilak Kamod was a rendition of the classic Thumri “Dekho Sakhi Shyam Nithur”. Performed by Vandita, Gun, Yashasvi, Devanshi, Ameesha, and Varnika, the piece beautifully portrayed the emotional nuances of the traditional love lore of Radha and Krishna.


The program concluded on a high note, with resounding applause from an appreciative audience and heartfelt appreciation from dignitaries. “Nartan” was not only a celebration of dance but a proud reflection of the institution’s commitment to preserving and promoting India’s rich classical heritage.
