Rhythm, Grace, and Devotion: Classical Arts Take Center Stage in Ongoing Workshop at Shivangi Sangeet Mahavidyalaya

Meerut | June 03, 2025:
An immersive celebration of Indian classical music and dance is underway in Meerut, as the Uttar Pradesh Sangeet Natak Akademi, Lucknow, in collaboration with Shivangi Sangeet Mahavidyalaya, hosts a comprehensive workshop on Music and Kathak Dance across two key locations of the institution.
The morning sessions are being conducted at the Rudki Road branch of Shivangi Sangeet Mahavidyalaya, while evening sessions take place at the main campus in Gandhi Nagar, Garh Road. The workshop, designed to preserve and promote the rich legacy of Indian performing arts, has drawn in enthusiastic participation from young learners across the city.
A special highlight of the workshop is the presence of Tabla maestro Shri Saptak Sharma, an accomplished artist of the Ajrada Gharana. Through focused sessions, he trained students in the intricacies of rhythm (Taal) — including mātrā, laghu, jaati, and the structure of tihai compositions. His sessions offered not just technical depth but also invoked a deeper appreciation for the percussive essence of Indian classical music.
In the Kathak wing, Guru Smt. Ruchi Balooni led the students through dynamic sessions that explored hastak movements, teen taal compositions, and layakari exercises. Her teaching emphasized the graceful integration of technique and expression in classical dance.

Parallelly, the vocal music workshop led by Guru Shri Raja Balooni focused on alankars and palta practice, along with soulful training in bhav sangeet through compositions like “Jai Radha Madhav” and intricate sargam geet exercises.
The workshop’s visionary direction comes under Smt. Richa Sharma, the Director of Shivangi Sangeet Mahavidyalaya. She personally addressed the students, emphasizing the discipline of riyaaz (dedicated practice) as the cornerstone of any artist’s journey. Her message resonated with the young learners and underscored the institution’s mission to nurture disciplined, grounded, and expressive artists.
As the sessions continue through the week, the workshop stands as a vibrant reflection of cultural continuity, ensuring that the legacy of classical music and dance remains alive, engaging, and inspiring for the next generation.
