Ramayana’s Arun Govil Makes Political Debut, Files Nomination from Meerut on BJP Ticket

Meerut: Arun Govil, renowned for his portrayal of Lord Ram in the iconic Ramanand Sagar serial, Ramayana, stepped into the political arena on Tuesday, marking his political debut by filing his nomination as the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) candidate from Meerut for the upcoming Lok Sabha elections.

Addressing reporters amidst a fervent crowd, Govil expressed confidence in the overwhelming support he has received from the people of Meerut. He attributed the enthusiastic response to the popularity of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, underscoring the manifestation of Modi’s widespread appeal.

Accompanied by Deputy Chief Minister Keshav Prasad Maurya, Govil’s nomination filing ceremony was marked by optimism and high expectations from the BJP camp. Maurya predicted a landslide victory for the BJP, asserting confidence in securing 80 seats in Uttar Pradesh and surpassing the 400-seat mark nationwide.

Highlighting the warm reception accorded to Govil by the people of Meerut, Maurya emphasized the actor’s significant appeal both locally and nationally.

In a scathing remark aimed at the Samajwadi Party (SP), Maurya suggested renaming the party to “Badla candidate name,” while confidently stating that the BJP would outshine its competitors in the upcoming elections, leaving SP and BSP in its wake.

Earlier in the day, Govil led a grand roadshow in Meerut, drawing cheers and support from the public. He was accompanied by sitting BJP MP Rajendra Agarwal and other prominent party leaders.

The BJP had officially announced Govil’s candidacy from the Meerut Lok Sabha seat on March 24, setting the stage for what promises to be a riveting electoral contest. Polling in Meerut is scheduled for the second phase on April 26, further intensifying the political fervor in the region.
