Muzaffarnagar: Rakesh Tikait starts indefinite dharna against arrest of BKU activists

Muzaffarnagar (NewsReach) : Chaudhary Rakesh Tikait started an indefinite dharna at Kotwali in protest against the arrest of BKU workers.

Ten activists of the Bhartiya Kisan Union (BKU) were arrested following a clash at the district hospital here on Monday night, police said. Protesting at the Kotwali police station here, Tikait demanded the immediate release of the activists, alleging that they have been falsely implicated in the case. Police said the BKU men were demanding an immediate medical examination of people who had suffered injuries in a clash earlier.

On Monday evening, the owner of the restaurant had an argument with Amarjeet, worker of  Bharatiya Kisan Union, who was at a restaurant located at Prakash Chowk.

Ten people were arrested in this connection, police said. Tikait, who is also the BKU’s national spokesperson, told reporters that the district authorities wanted to suppress his outfit by falsely implicating BKU supporters in a case. He demanded the release of the BKU activists, who he said had accompanied people for a medical examination in the district hospital. The activists of the Bharatiya Kisan Union who have been sent to jail include Amarjit Singh of village Haidernagar, Ravindra Kumar – Saidpura, Anuj alias Annu – Alipur Khurd, Gaurav alias Honey – Brahmapuri, Gautam, Saurabh, Sumit, Pradeep.

Bharatiya Kisan Union’s national spokesperson Chaudhary Rakesh Tikait alleges that the police is working at the behest of the government and has taken farmers and Bharatiya Kisan Union workers on target as soon as the government is formed, Rakesh Tikait said that this is an indefinite strike, till their demands are met.

Security has been tightened in the Kotwali police station area. Police and PAC personnel have been deployed in the area.
