Power Play: NCR Residents Sweat in the Dark as Societies Clash with Electricity Supplier

Meerut / Ghaziabad / Noida / Greater Noida : The scorching Delhi NCR sun beats down mercilessly, a relentless reminder of the coming summer. But for residents in various NCR societies, the heat isn’t the only thing making them sweat. They’re facing an added layer of discomfort – uncertainty over their electricity supply.
The problem? A clash between residents and their electricity supplier, their Apartment Owners Associations (AOA). While PVVNL provides bills on credit, allowing residents to pay after consuming the electricity, many AOAs are demanding advance payment. The consequence of non-compliance? Power cuts, plunging homes into darkness during this sweltering time.

Frustration is simmering among residents. “It’s like living in a sauna at night,” says Ritu Sharma, a resident of Ghaziabad. “The kids can’t sleep, and working from home becomes impossible without proper ventilation. The worst part is the uncertainty – will we have power tonight or not?”
The lack of clarity on the legality of this practice adds to the residents’ woes. “We understand the AOA might have reasons for advance payment,” says Ashish Kapoor from Noida. “But what are the rules? Is this even legal? The heat is unbearable, and this constant state of worry is just not fair.”

Local Post have been flooded with complaints, with residents demanding answers. Many are planning to reach out to the Uttar Pradesh Electricity Regulatory Commission (UPERC) seeking clarification on the government’s regulations regarding electricity bill collection in societies.
As temperatures continue to rise, so do anxieties. Will the residents of NCR societies get the relief they desperately need – a transparent system for electricity billing and a cool respite from the scorching heat? Only time, and perhaps intervention from UPPCL, will tell.
