New Research Points to Wuhan Market as Covid-19 Pandemic’s Origin
Two studies have shown that the Covid-19 virus, which is responsible for many death’s worldwide, has spread to humans from a seafood market in Wuhan city of China. In the first study, it has been proved through local analysis that the first cases in December 2019 were from the Wuhan market, while in the second paper also the test samples were found to be related to the sale of live animals. Michael Worobey, a professor at the University of Arizona in the US, tweeted that using the WHO mission report on the origin of SARS-CoV-2, we mapped the latitude and longitude of most known COVID-19 cases in Wuhan beginning in December-2019. Worobey, author of both papers, said, “We found that in December the cases were found close to the Huanan market and this was the center of the live animal market.
The second study found that the two major viral lineages were the result of at least two events in which the virus passed from animals to humans. According to the research, the first lineage transmission was in late November or early December in 2019 and the second lineage probably arose within weeks of the first event. After that it spread all over the world.
